Week 5 - July 28th, 2020

Post by latincontrol »

As we approach the end of the regular season, let’s take a look at the action which took place in week 5.

Game One: Dingers v. Ballz Deep
Dingers got good production from Connor Patterson. Connor went 4-5 on the night with 4 singles and also scoring 4 times. Dave Itarola was also 4-5, with 2 singles and 2 doubles. Dave scored 3 times and drove in 4. Dingers played with just 9 men on the field while producing 14 runs on offense.

Ballz Deep got all the offense they needed in the first two innings. They scored 10 in the first and 7 in the second inning. Chris Morgan went 2-2 in those two innings, smashing two homes runs. A 3-run shot in the 1st and a 2-run shot in the 2nd. Greg Guarino was also 2-2 with 2 doubles and 3 rbi. Jarrett Kerns drove in 2 more runs in the 4th – capping the offensive output at 19. Ballz Deep handled their business winning by 5.

Game Two: Beers v. Mike’s Bar & Grill
Unfortunately, not too much to mention for Mike’s in this game. The offense finished with 3 runs in just 7 hits…in 5 innings. Joe Talarico went 2-2 on the night with 2 singles…driving in 2 runs. John Biondo dove in the only other run.

Beers fared much better. A 13-run outburst in the 4th inning would be all they needed. Ryan Henritzy blasted 3-run homer and Connor MacFarlene singled home 2. Ryan Maley later added a 3-run shot of his own in the 4th inning to cap the scoring. Beers win via mercy rule, 18-3.

Game Three: Philly Junk v. Da Bears
Philly Junk put in the work at the plate. Shane Hanna continued to stay hot offensively capping a 3-run first inning with a home run. Mike Bitterlich drove in his 3rd home run with a solo home run in the 5th. Mike Testa added a 2-run double in the 4th and Brandon Bozek drove in two more with his single in the 3rd.

Da Bears unfortunately could not keep up. They did add 3 runs in the first inning with Zack Lyall, Sean Valenza and Gene Lyall all driving in runs. Sean also drove in 2 more in the 5th. Da Bears drove in 6 on the night…but they gave up 21. Not close, Philly win easily.

Game Four: Vertex v. Team Horsham
Vertez smashed three long balls on the night…a 2-run shot by CJ Snyder and two solo bombs by Matt Schaub; Matt finished with 3 rbi. Jose Rodriguez singled twice; scoring both times. Russell Miller also singled twice driving in 2 runs. Vertex scored 15.

Horsham attempted to keep up offensively and did well. Taking advantage of a series of errors, a few key Horsham hits helped keep them relevant offensively. Bryan M doubled and tripled driving in a run and scoring twice. Grant Opalisky had three hits scoring twice and driving in a run. Horsham scored 13 times, but fell just short to Vertex.
