Game One: Cannoneers @ Sons of Pitches
The reigning, defending, undisputed champions of Friday night men’s softball visited Sons of Pitches. It was a slow start for the champs, trickling in only 5 runs over the first 4 innings. Conversely, SofP’s came out hot. The first 5 batters would all cross the plate. Trevor Harris would walk and then see the next 5 batters get base hits. Over the course of the next 3 innings, SofP’s would add zero runs. Entering the fifth, the game would be tied 5-5. The Cannoneers would post 9 in the 5th, featuring back to back homers by Shawn Hines (his 2nd of the game) and Brian Wrigley. SofP’s answered with 6, as the Cannoneers pitcher would walk 6 in the inning. But it wouldn’t be enough. Cannoneers win, 15 - 11.
Player of the Game: Dan Powell, Cannoneers, 3 for 3, 1 BB, 3 runs scored.
Game Two: Misfits @ Dirty Dozen
Misfits opened with 6 runs in the top of the first - batting around the entire lineup. D12 would double that production in the bottom of the inning. Chris Hackney, Justin O’Brien, and Jordan Cook would all hit homers in the inning. Yes, that’s not a typo - Chris Hackney would go yard in the opening inning. The Misfits would score 5 more over the course of the game, 2 of which came from a 2 run homer from JB Jordan. D12 would have a big 5th inning, posting 9. Cook drove in 2 more on a double and would score his 3rd run of the game. Jon Myzak, Hackney, O’Brien, and Cook each would cross the plate 3 times each. D12 wins, 22 - 11.
Player of the Game: Jordan Cook, D12, 4 for 4, 1 HR, 5 RBIs, 3 runs scored.
Game Three: Cobra Kai @ The Generals
Opening night’s prime time feature had last year’s runner-up, Cobra Kai, visit The Generals. Generally speaking, scoring 3 runs in a game won’t be enough to win many games. But would it be enough for The Generals on this frosty night? Nope. The Kai opened the game with a triple by Sam Plaugher and a Jay Pane RBI double. Pane would score 2 batters later. In the 2nd, Plaugher and Pane struck again with base hits, and each scored again. Jake Haber would single and then score on the Donovan Squartino homer. More of the same in the 4th with Plaugher, Pane, Haber, and Squartino all racking up base hits and scoring again. The Generals would get a run in the 3rd from Mark Coykendall and then 2 in the 7th from Adam Gingerich and Chris Forester. The Kai run away with this one, 17 - 3.
Player of the Game: Donovan Squartino, 4 for 5, 1 HR, 2 runs scored, 3 RBIs.
***Shout out to scorekeeper, Fern. In the words of Billy Joel, "Life is a series of hellos and goodbyes." For now, it's goodbye... until next week!
