Opening Day

Post by latincontrol »

Welcome to the 2022 Tuesday Men’s Opening Day Slate of Games.

All eight teams returning from the 2021 campaign with Zach Martin’s Dookie Brewster looking to keep the crown after their fall season Chip sweep of Philly Junk.
Let’s get to it.

Game One: Beers v. Just Food

Beers got started quickly when Ryan Haley led off the game with a double. Connor MacFarlane followed up with is own double and Ryan Calabro hit his first of two home runs on the night…a 2-run shot. He homered again in the 3rd inning with another 2-run shot. Matt Kane also hit a 2-run homer with his coming in the middle of a huge 6th inning rally; a 7-run effort. Calabro doubled home 2 more run to finish with 6 rbi.
Despite the 6th inning rally, Just Food was in a good spot to win this game. Though they have up the lead and went into the home half of the 6th trailing by one…a huge first inning kept them afloat. Consecutive rbi hits by Matt McReynolds, Dave Shannon and Kyle Saba highlighted an 8-run first inning and Kyle Saba had a HUGE 2-run triple to put JF back in the lead…for good. Saba finished with 4 ribbies as JF won by 2.

Game Two: Team Horsham v. Philly Junk

Eric Lane went 3-3 in the game with a walk, triple, run scored and one rbi. Matt Galasso and Brett Severio both hit a SF to drive in the 2nd and 3rd runs for Horsham….but that’s it. Three runs on 13 sporadic hits.
The Junk boys needed just the 3rd inning to put this game away. In route to scoring 8 runs in the frame, Brandon Birkhead smashed a 3-run homer whicle Tom Rider drove in 2 with a single. For good measure, Evan Porter hit a 2-run shot in the 6th putting the game away for good with a 15-3 final.

Game Three: Dookie Brewster v. Kings Corner

Dookie’s offense started out VERY slow managing just 3 runs on 9 hits through the first three innings. But in the 4th, it changed quickly. They scored 8 runs in the 4th and 7 more in the 5th. Jason McLaughlin doubled home 2 in the 4th and Zach Martin drove in 2 more with a single. In the 5th, Ryan Goodman and Jimmy Craig both tripled and scored.
K. Corner started out hot out the gate with 4 runs in the first inning with Matt Schaub and Bill Shallcross both doubling in runs. But only a 6th inning Shally single would be the next time they’d score again. They finished with 5 runs, not enough to win this one.

Game Four: Dingers v. Wire 2 Wire

W2W started their scoring in the 3rd inning after Greg Guarino doubled home 2 runs and Bill Walker tripled home another. Greg doubled home 2 more in the 4th and Jared Togreno with a double in the 5th driving in another run. W2W finished with 8, but not enough.
Dingers got an early HR from Jake McCall in the first inning before the team batted around in the 2nd inning scoring 7 times. In the 4th, they would bat around again this time plating 8 runs. Dave Iatarok drove in 3 runs in two at bats in the 4th inning alone. He finished with 5 rbi for the game. Dingers went on to score 20 runs and take the night’s final game easily by 12.
