Dave and Confused vs. Purple Cobras

Dave and Confused came into this one looking to jump to a 3-1 start and give Purple Cobras their first loss of the season. DC gets on the board early with 2 runs in the 1st, with a Marc McKinney double knocking in both. Purple Cobras responds in the bottom half with an 11-burger. Eight singles, and doubles by 'Let’s Go' Brandon Roman and Diego Roman ignited the offense. DC gets blanked in the second, and Cobras tack on 4 more with some singles, a double by Dan ‘the Hitman’ Roman, and a sac fly. DC gets two more back in the top of the 3rd, courtesy of a two RBI single by Mark McKinney. Cobras respond with 1 in the bottom, via three singles from the bottom of the order. DC gets 1 in the top of the 4th from an Alex Phinn sac fly. Cobras bats light on fire again in the bottom of the 4th, plating 8 runs and batting around the order. Two walks, six singles, and doubles by Dan and Jordan Roman paved the way. Going into the 5th inning needing 5 runs to keep playing, DC can only muster 2, due in part to the heart and soul of their squad, Carl Ervin, going out with an injury. Purple Cobras take this one 24-7.

Player of the Game: Honorable mention to Marc McKinney, who went 3-3 with 4 RBIs in a losing effort, but Dan Roman takes it this week. ‘The Hitman’ earned his nickname this week, going 5-5 with two doubles, 5 RBIs, and 2 Rs.

Philly’s Phinest vs. Yankee Clippers

Phinest came into this one looking to even out their record at 2-2, while trying to knock the Clippers under .500. They get off to a quick start, plating 4 in the top of the 1st via four singles and three walks. The Clippers steal 2 back in the bottom, with four singles propelling the offense. The Clippers put their relief pitcher in for the 2nd inning and keep Phinest off the board. Phinest returns the favor, sitting down the Yankee Clippers in the bottom half. YC puts their starter back on the bump, who followed a leadoff walk with a strikeout. Phinest knock in 1 from a Dominic Rocks RBI single to keep him honest, however. Clippers bats wake up in the bottom of the 3rd inning with three singles, and doubles by Pat ‘the Bat’ Brennan and Rich Brazukas helping knock in 4. Phinest plate 1 in the top of the 4th to tie things back up, with a Billy Algorth RBI single leading the way. The Clippers get 1 back in the bottom of the 4th despite an absolutely embarrassing strikeout by manager Nick Todd. (Helen Keller would’ve made contact, just saying.) Phinest get shut out in the 5th and 6th, while the Clippers add one more in the 6th inning, despite a way more athletic swinging K by Andre O’Donnell. With the score 8-6 Clippers going into the 7th, Phinest bats wake up in a big way, scoring 6 off of three walks and four singles. The Clippers can only muster one more run, courtesy of a Kai Browner triple. Phinest clip the Clippers 12-9.

Player of the Game: Ray “Go Kick” Rocks. Rocks went 4-4 with a walk, three singles, and a double. He also scored twice and knocked in 2 RBIs in the win.

Palz Tap House vs. Sunday Scaries

Palz pulled off a big upset for their 1st win of the season a few weeks back, and looked to keep the momentum going against an undefeated Sunday Scaries squad. Both teams trade runs in the 1st inning with Ryan Nakonieczny knocking one for Palz, and Josh “El Capitan” Persing knocking one in for Scaries. Scaries go down 1-2-3 to start the top of the 2nd, while Palz gets 2 more in the bottom, with a two RBI single from Chris Crookham leading the way. Scaries has a repeat of the 2nd, going down in order again. Palz responds by plating 4 more in the bottom of the 3rd to take a 7-1 lead. Five straight singles knocked in the runs for Palz. Offense gets going for Scaries in the top of the 4th, with four singles and a Matt Horn double generating 4 runs. Palz blanks in the bottom of the 4th and 5th, allowing Scaries to take a one run lead after the 5th, courtesy of doubles by Bobby Scholly and Kris Karaba. Palz defense tightens up again in the top of the 6th, keeping Scaries scoreless. Palz ties the game at 8 in the bottom of the 6th, with a Jordan Cohen triple being the catalyst. Scaries responds at the top of the 7th, scoring three off of a John Persing 3 run bomb. Palz starts the bottom going single, single, double to knock in one run, but that’s all she wrote. Sunday Scaries survive, 11-9.

Player of the Game: ‘El Capitan’ Josh Persing raked today, going 3-3 with a sac fly, two singles, and a HR. He also had 6 RBI and scored twice.

Cifelli Sunoco vs. Dirt Stars

Dirt Stars got to pad their win total, but not their stats. They win this one 7-0 via forfeit.

Player of the Game: The umpire and scorekeeper for getting to leave the fields early.
