B East 6/5/2022

Post by ntodd71 »

Well call me Phil Connors, because it’s Groundhog Day in the B East! Every matchup on 6/5 is a repeat of the 5/15 schedule.

Purple Cobras vs. Dave and Confused

Last time these teams met, Purple Cobras took Dave and Confused down in a 24-7 showing. Cobras came into this one looking to add another W to their 5-0-1 record, while Dave and Confused tried to keep their footing as the 3 seed with a 3-2 record. Cobras plated 2 in the top of the 1st, courtesy of two singles, a sac fly, and a double by Dan “the Hitman” Roman. DC gets runners on 1st and 2nd to start the inning, then go down in order off of a flyout and fielder’s choices. The 2nd inning is the inverse for both squads, as Cobras sit down without scoring, and DC gets 2 of their own off of a single, walk, and error. Cobras respond in the top of the 3rd with 2 runs via a walk, single, error, and sac fly, while DC gets one back, thanks to a John Hickman RBI triple. Cobras put up another 2 in the top of the 4th, with two singles, a Kenny Croak double, and a sac fly doing the damage. DC’s offense went cold from the 4th-7th innings, unable to produce any more runs. Purple Cobras tacks on 3 more insurance runs, and take this one with a 9-3 final.

Player of the Game: Dan “the Hitman” Roman. The Hitman went 3-4, with two singles and a double in this one.

Philly’s Phinest vs. Yankee Clippers

In their 5/15 matchup, Philly’s Phinest had rallied at the top of the 7th after being down 2, to take a 12-9 win over the Clippers. Offense was at a premium in this one, as neither team could produce a run in the 1st inning. Thanks to a Happy Gilmore-esque bat throw, Chris Rocks was ejected after a pop up in the 1st, and Phinest had to take an automatic out the rest of the game. Phinest plated their first run of the game in the top of the 2nd, courtesy of singles from Mike Jr, Sr, and Ray Rocks. They got their second run in the top of the 6th by way of Mike Rocks Jr scoring via error. The Clippers scored two runs off of two Kai Browner sac flies, and both teams were 2-2 going into the bottom of the 7th. Phinest couldn’t produce a run, setting the stage for a Yankee Clipper walkoff. Singles by Rob Hoyle and Nick Todd, and a walk by Andre O’Donnell loaded the bases with zero outs for the top of the order. Statcast’s win % for the Clippers was at 99.7%. Unfortunately for them, a lineout to the pitcher, a pop out to the SS, and a foul out prevented any walkoff heroics. Sensing blood in the water, Philly’s Phinest rallied and scored 3 runs in the top of the 8th inning. Singles from Mike Jr, Ray, and Dillon Richards, along with sac flies from Domenic Rocks and Nick Quartullo gave them a 5-2 advantage. A leadoff triple by Tom “In It To” Finn “It”, knocked one in, as did a ground out by Will Jensen, but that’s all they wrote, as Philly’s Phinest rallied for a big win, 5-4 final.

Player of the Game: Billy Aichroth. Aichroth went 3-3, with a walk, two singles, and a double for Phinest.

Palz Tap House vs. Sunday Scaries

In the previous matchup, Palz took Sunday Scaries to the limit, before ultimately falling 11-9. They drew first blood in this one, scoring a run in the top of the 1st, thanks to back-to-back doubles from Pete Herbert and Brett Broderick. Scaries tie it up at 1, with a Collin Kelly leadoff double crossing the plate. Palz takes a 3-1 lead after the top of the 2nd, with back-to-back doubles by Bob Jacob and Louie Knoebel propelling their offense. Not to be outdone, Scaries put up a 4 spot to take a 5-3 lead in the bottom half of the inning. An Andrew Coates leadoff double, two singles, a walk, and a Dave McKenna sac fly did the damage. Palz ties it up at 5 apiece with three singles helping plate 2 runs. Scaries respond by taking a 1 run lead via doubles from Matt ‘the Bat’ Horn and Dave McCaughey. Palz bats go quiet in the 4th, 5th, and 6th innings, while Scaries blanks the 4th, and puts up 3-pieces in the 5th and 6th inning. Six singles and two errors helped get them the extra half dozen. Down 12-5 going into the top of the 7th, Palz gets two runs off of back-to-back-to-back singles and a fielder’s choice, but that’s all she wrote in this game. Sunday Scaries wins by a final of 12-7.

Player of the Game: Gonna give it to Bob Jacob in the loss for Palz. Jacob went 3-3 with two singles, a double, and two runs scored on the day.
