DC starts chipping away at the deficit, putting up 4 in the bottom of the 2nd, in part to four singles and a walk. Scaries go down 1-2-3 in the 3rd, and DC plates 3 more to cut the lead to 7. With the lead down to 6, Scaries offense gets rolling again, scoring 4 via errors, three singles, and a double from Josh “El Capitan” Persing. Player of the Game: Josh Persing. “El Capitan” had a solid showing at the plate, going 4-5 with a single, 3 doubles, 7 RBIs and 5 Rs scored.

Dirt Stars vs. Yankee Clippers

This matchup was essentially a play-in game for the #6 seed. Dirt Stars took a 7-0 lead going into the bottom of the 3rd inning. Three walks, three errors, four singles, and a Bobby McHugh double got things going for Dirt Stars. Yankee Clippers bats decided to wake up in the bottom of the 3rd inning, however, scoring 5 runs to cut the lead to 2. Three singles, two errors, and a two RBI triple by Zach Downs gave life to what has been the league’s most stagnant offense over the last four games. Dirt Stars and Yankee Clippers both added one more in the 4th, via a Daulton Pickersgill sac fly for DS and an RBI double by Mike O’Connor for the Clippers. Dirt Stars were blanked in the top of the 5th, and the Yankee Clippers plated 2 to tie it up at 8, with both runs coming in by way of a Zach Downs sac fly. Dirt Stars take a 3-run lead in the top of the 6th with three walks and three singles. The Clippers responded in the bottom with a 7-spot. Six singles, two walks, an error, and a two RBI double by Will “Where’s My Beer?” Jensen kept the Clippers playoff hopes alive. Down 15-11 going into the top of the 7th, Dirt Stars manage to tie it up at 15 apiece due in part to channeling their inner Axl Rose and having some patience at the plate. A whopping 5 walks, an error, and a two RBI single by Joey Carpino got Dirt Stars back into it. Going into the bottom of the 7th, Rich Brazukas hit a leadoff double, got moved over by a Mike O’Connor fielder’s choice, and then finally crossed the plate from an Andre “12 Shot of Hennessy” O’Donnell sacrifice fly. Yankee Clippers walk off and sneak into the postseason with a 16-15 come from behind victory.

Player of the Game: Rich Brazukas. Rich went 3-4 with two singles and a double, reached a fourth time via error, and scored 4 runs, including the game winner.

Gonna need the Commish to check the record books. Shawn Mackley of Dirt Stars took 5 BBs in six plate appearances, which has got to be an SBA single game record.

Purple Cobras would lock up the #1 seed with a victory, while a Palz win would’ve put together a 3-1 second half of the schedule, making them one of the hottest teams in the division going into the postseason. Purple Cobras score 2 runs in the top of the 1st inning, thanks to a Pete Corrigan double. Palz is kept scoreless in the bottom of the 1st but returns the favor and blanks PC in the top of the 2nd.
