Friday Men’s - June 24, 2022

Post by JP40 »

Game One: Generals @ Dirty Dozen
Generally speaking, hitting 3 homeruns is a good sign of a fine night of slowpitch softball. But not tonight. The Generals get deep balls from Jon Fink (2) and Chris Forester, but that would only help them total 6 runs on the night. D12 would surpass this total in just 2 innings. Joe Murray would drive in 2 runs on his 1st inning dinger as D12 racked up 10 runs after 2 times through the lineup. They’d chunk off 7 more runs over the next 4 innings, defeating the Generals 17-6.

Player of the Game: Joe Murray - D12 - 3 for 4, 1 HR, 3 RBIs, 2 runs scored.

Game Two: Cannoneers @ Cobra Kai
The Cannoneers summer revenge tour began with a rematch of the spring semis. Cobra Kai knocked out the perennial league champs in the spring. Tonight, the Cannoneers would be short players, but not on runs, scoring 6 in the 2nd inning. Tom Banes and Mike Gallo would go back to back with long balls. The Kai struggled out of the box, trickling in 2 runs in the 2nd, 2 in the 3rd, and 2 in the 5th. Dave Keeler would homer once, and Rob Thompkinson would hit out 2. The Kai would have a big 6th and 7th inning, plating 11 runs over that span. Mike Fischer would homer twice, driving in 4 total runs. But the nail in the coffin would be a Brian Wrigley double that drove in Dan Powell and Jake Engleman. Kai falls, 19 - 17.

Player of the Game: Dan Powell - Cannoneers - 6 for 6 - 1 HR, 1 2B, 2 RBIs, 4 runs scored.

Game Three: Misfits @ Sons of Pitches
Well kids, this one would only see 6 innings as the Misfits would go buck wild - scoring 29 runs! It was a promising start for SofP’s, as they posted 10 runs in the opening two innings. Tim Glick hit a solo, and 2 runs were scored by each of these SofPers: Tim Frei, Glick, Bob Stanley, & Derek Benner. An 11th run would come in the 6th on a Frei solo shot. 2 Misfits would score 5 runs each: Randy Helsman and Dan Benner. Benner would also homer twice. John Keifer would hit a solo bomb. Misfits manhandle SofP’s, 29-11.

Player of the Game: Top 7 of the lineup - Misfits - 26 for 36.

***Shout out to scorekeeper, Scott. In the words of Billy Joel, "Life is a series of hellos and goodbyes." For now, it's goodbye... until next week!
