Friday Men’s - Sep 9, 2022

Post by JP40 »

Game One: Dirty Dozen @ Cannoneers
D12 would scrap together 3 runs through 7 innings - but explode for 4 in the 7th. Justin O’Brien, Kevin Carver, Cody Nash, and Andrew Alexander each would cross the plate. The Cannoneers would see Shawn Hines and Brian Wrigley blast solo shots in the 1st. Tom Banes would follow suit in the 2nd with a solo of his own. Cannoneers win a rock fight, 9-7.

Player of the Game: Brain Wrigley, Cannoneers, 2 for 3, 1 HR, 3 RBIs, 2 runs scored, 1 K

Game Two: Sons of Pitches @ Cannoneers
SofP’s stat book looks just like game one of tonight. They scored 2 early - and then nothing until the 6th. 5 runs were tallied - highlighted by a 3-run dinger by Tim Gluck. The Cannoneers also posted 2 early, and nothing until the 5th inning. Jake Engleman and Mike Skrzat (yes, this is not a typo) each homered in the inning. 7 runs were accumulated, and then 3 more would be added in the 6th. Mike Banes singled, Josh Kennedy walked, bringing back Skrzat to the plate with 2 on. Yes, friends, he homered again. Cannoneers win, 12 - 7.

Player of the Game: Michael Skrzat, Cannoneers, 3 for 4, 2 HRs, 6 RBIs, 2 runs scored.

Game Three: Sons of Pitches @ Misfits
SofP’s would score 2 runs in the first inning - both by the first 2 batters in the lineup (Tim Frei & Derrick Benner). And that’d be it. Yes, for the whole game. The Misfits would post 15 - highlighted by 4 walks by Matt Bookheimer and 5 singles from John Keifer.

Player of the Game: Michael Skrzat, Cannoneers, 3 for 4, 2 HRs, 6 RBIs, 2 runs scored.

Game Four: Misfits @ Cobra Kai
The Kai push in Austin Linde in the 1st after The ‘Fits score Trevor Rice. The ‘Fits would plate 4 more in the 2nd, 2 of which would come in after a John Keifer single. The Kai would scratch out 3 more runs over the next 6 innings (2 via a Rob Tomkinson long ball). But 4 runs just wouldn’t be enough. The Misfits would drive in Keifer 2 more times late in the game, and win the gaem, 8 - 4.

Player of the Game: John Keifer, Misfits, 4 for 4, 2 runs scored, 2 RBIs.

Game Five: Generals @ Cobra Kai
Generally speaking, 2 runs scored over 6 innings doesn’t net many victories. This would be true tonight, as the Generals mustered only 2 runs. The Kai woke up the bats, and posted 17. Donnie Squartino would score 3 runs in the first 3 innings, and drive in 4 as well. Chalk up 3 runs for Sam Plaugher, Austin Linde, and Tyler Gower in this one.

Player of the Game: Donnie Squartino, Cobra Kai, 5 for 5, 3 runs scored, 6 RBIs, 1 2B.

Game Six: Dirty Dozen @ Generals
Generally speaking, 16 runs scored nets you a win many nights in slowpitch softball. But not tonight. The Generals generated a 7-run inning on their way to a 16-run output. But they gave us 20 in the loss. Chris Forester would score 4 runs on the evening and Kevin W. would drive in 6. D12 scored zero runs in the first, but 15 in the 2nd… batting around twice. Every player either scored or drove in runs in the inning. Vinny A. scored 3 runs, and J. Aiken hit a 3-run homer to end the night.

Player of the Game: J. Aiken, Dirty Dozen, 3 for 5, 1 HR, 5 RBIs, 3 runs scored.

***Shout out to scorekeeper, Stephanie. In the words of Billy Joel, "Life is a series of hellos and goodbyes." For now, it's goodbye... until next week!
