Friday Men’s - Sep 23, 2022

Post by JP40 »

Game One: Misfits @ Generals
Well, generally speaking, 0 runs equals 0 chance to get the dub. The Generals muster 0 runs on 3 total hits. The Misfits post 21 runs on many hits. 4 players scored 3 runs each (Trevor Rice, Randy Helsman, John Keifer, and Jose Rodriguez). This one would last just 4 innings. Kudos to the Misfits pitching and D!

Player of the Game: John Keifer, Misfits, 4 for 4, 5 RBIs, 3 runs scored.

Game Two: Misfits @ Cannoneers
The Misfits were shut out early by the reigning champs but did rally to score 6 in the latter innings. Mike Schutt’s 2-run triple sparked the offense as they’d score 4 runs in the 5th. The Cannoneers only had 9 players on the night, but still managed to play great defense and post 11 runs of their own. Shawn Hines went yard - as did Jake Engleman.

Player of the Game: Shawn Hines, Cannoneers, 3 for 4, 1 HR, 3 RBIs, 3 runs scored.

Game Three: Cobra Kai @ Cannoneers
The Kai and the Cannoneers had an old-fashioned slugfest at Stover Park. 33 runs would be posted in this one which means there was either great offense being played… or terrible D. Nonetheless, the Kai would get homers from Corey Gomez and 2 from Donnie Squartino. Jake Haber would go 6 for 6 and Bobby Lillo 4 for 4. The defending champs would only post one homer - by Jake Engleman. But a heavy dose of singles would continuously push runs across the plate. Tony Caper’s 4 singles and three runs helped the champs win 18 - 15 in 6 innings. Time ended this barn burner an inning early.

Player of the Game: Jake Engleman, Cannoneers, 3 for 3, 1 HR, 1 2B, 3 RBIs, 1 run scored.

Game Four: Sons of Pitches @ Generals
SofP’s post 6 in the first, in what looked like the beginning of a tough night for the Generals. Jayden Hurrey and Bobby Hartzell each would walk and later score. But after the top of the first, SofP’s wouldn’t score another run. In fact, they’d only get 5 base hits the rest of the game. But would it be enough to defeat the Generals? NOT TONIGHT! Generally speaking, if you hold opponents to 5 hits after the first, your prospects of winning increase nicely. The Generals would explode for 17 runs in a landslide victory. John Muniz scored 4 times, as did Jon Fink and Chris Forester. Forester would also hit an RBI triple.

Player of the Game: Jon Fink, Generals, 6 for 6, 4 RBIs, 4 runs scored, 2 2Bs.

Game Five: Sons of Pitches @ Dirty Dozen
Game 5 was far less exciting. SofP’s would see a Tim Gluck homer in the 3rd, but that would account for 2 of the 4 runs on the night. D12 would score 7 in the first 2 innings… and then nothing the rest of the way. Nash, O’Brien, and Cook would each score twice in the win.

Player of the Game: Jordan Cook, Dirty Dozen, 3 for 3, 3 RBIs, 2 runs scored, 1 2B.

Game Six: Cobra Kai @ Dirty Dozen
The Kai would jump out in front right away with the top (Haber, Gower, and B. Lillo) each singling and scoring. The bottom of the order would produce throughout the game as Gomez, Fischer, and Benner would collect 6 runs between them. Meanwhile, they’d hold D12 down to just a few runs. Nash, Hackney, and Aiken each would score once, but that’d be it in this one. A dominant performance by Dariano’s boys, they win 12-3.

Player of the Game: Jake Haber, Cobra Kai, 4 for 5, 3 runs scored, 3 RBIs.

***Shout out to scorekeepers, Dan & Fern. In the words of Billy Joel, "Life is a series of hellos and goodbyes." For now, it's goodbye... until next week!
