Friday Men’s - June 9 & 16, 2023

Post by JP40 »

Game One: The Yard @ Cannoneers
In game one of the Friday men’s championship of the world, The Yard got out of the blocks with 2 runs in the first. A walk by Bookheimer and a 2-run homer by Rodriguez got the Yard a 2-0 lead that lasted just a few minutes long. The Cannoneers posted 4 in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by a 2-run homer by Dan Powell. The Yard stack up 7 runs in the 3rd - aided greatly by a 3-run long ball from Jonny Poore… which sealed the deal for the Yard’s upset win in game one.

Game Two: Cannoneers @ The Yard
Brian Wrigley hit a first-inning, 2-run homer to open up the scoring in game two. The Yard barked back with 6 runs - coming in from the first 6 batters in their lineup. That’s the good news. The bad news is they wouldn’t score another run the rest of the game and the Cannoneers would add 11 more runs to their total. Shawn Hines would go 4 for 4 with 2 homers, 4 runs scored, and 8 RBIs. Yard win 13-6.

Game Three: The Yard @ Cannoneers
Game three was a scrappy - back and forth - game. The Yard would have Jonny Poore post a pair of dingers. Tom Koelzer would hit a 3-run homer. Matty Bookheimer would double, walk twice, and score 3 runs. The Cannoneers would string together a solid 4th inning scoring 7 runs. Shawn Hines would hit a 3-run shot and Mike Gallo would drive in 1 on a sac fly. Jake Engleman would hit a 2-run long ball in the 5th. Kyle Morrow would match Jake’s 2-run shot with one of his own in the 6th. In the end, the Yard ran out of juice. The defending champs win again, 16-12.

***Shout out to scorekeeper, Fern. In the words of S. Carter, “A wise man told me don't argue with fools. Cause people from a distance can't tell who is who.”
