Game 1: Pitches Be Trippin vs Dark Horse
Dark Horse came up first and were able to get out in front early on an RBI single by Bill Groff. Pitches Be Trippin answered in the bottom of the 1st scoring two runs on RBI doubles by Anthony Perritti and Kris Karrabba to take a 2-1 lead over Dark Horse after one but failed to score again until the 7th. Dark Horse would score two runs in the top of the 3rd on an RBI double by Paul Ferruzzi and an RBI single by Dan Cripps to take a 3-2 lead. In the top of the 6th, Dark Horse added two more runs on a two-run RBI single by Ryan Schock to make the score 5-2 heading into the 7th. In the top of the 7th, Dark Horse extended their lead scoring two runs on an RBI double by Andy Springer to put Dark Horse up 7-2. Pitches Be Trippin came up in the bottom of the 7th needing five runs to tie and six to win. After getting a couple quick outs and having a man reach on a fielder’s choice, Dennis Kelley came up to the plate and hit a two-run homer to close the gap to 7-4 Dark Horse, but a flyout ended the comeback and closed the came out for Dark Horse. Dark Horse wins a low scoring contest 7-4 over Pitches Be Trippin.
Game 2: Doc’s vs Dark Horse
Dark Horse came into game 2 off a nice win and looked to make it two in a row on the day as they faced Doc’s. Dark Horse came out of the gate fast scoring more runs in the top of the 1st than they did the whole previous game. They scored eight runs on home runs by Jesse Grasso, Paul Harding and Rob Gisondi, and an RBI single by Bill Groff. Doc’s struggled on offense and after a couple singles they could not put any runs across as Dark Horse led 8-0 after the first. Both teams had runners on in the 2nd but could not score. In the top of the 3rd, Dark Horse would get a man on but again could not score. Doc’s would get on the board in the bottom of the 3rd scoring two on an RBI single by Dylan Brooks and a fielder’s choice to cut Dark Horse’s lead to 8-2 after the third. This would be the only runs Doc’s would score on the day. Dark Horse would stay hot at the plate the rest of the way as they scored in every inning the rest of the game. Nine runs crossed the plate on RBI singles by Dave Ketterlinus, Ryan Schock and Groff, RBI doubles by Dan Cripps and Paul Ferruzzi and an RBI sac fly by Jason Hudachek. Dark Horse wins two on the day winning big 17-2 against Doc’s.
Game 3: Doc’s vs Stiff Sox
Doc’s had to bounce back quickly from their previous low offensive scoring game as they faced off against Stiff Sox in their doubleheader. In the top of the 1st, Stiff Sox got a couple men on but could not push them across. Doc’s offense woke up in the bottom of the 1st and exploded for nine runs on RBI singles by Brett Keszczyk, Clay Snyder, Joe Giampietro, Kurtis Brown, Austin Kooker and Matt Fronheiser and a two-run RBI double by Joe Stankovics to take a 9-0 lead after the 1st. In the top of the 2nd, Stiff Sox got on the board scoring two runs on a two-run RBI single by Antonio Almeda. Doc’s would add one run in the bottom of the 2nd an RBI double by Snyder to put Doc’s up 10-2 after two. Stiff Sox would fail to score the next two innings and Doc’s would add on to their lead on a two-run homerun by Dylan Brooks in the bottom of the 4th to go up 12-2. Stiff Sox would not go down without a fight and scored three runs in the top of the 5th on a two-run homer by Andrew Bertolino and an RBI sac fly by Brian DeLucas. Doc’s could not score in the bottom of the 5th as their lead remained at 12-5 after five. Stiff Sox would add another run in the top of the 6th on an RBI sac fly by Jimmy Templeton but could not score anymore as Doc’s would beat Stiff Sox 12-6.
Game 4: Purple Cobras vs Stiff Sox
Stiff Sox had another chance to get in the W column on the day as they faced Purple Cobras in their second game of the doubleheader. Stiff Sox would get out to an early lead in the top of the 1st as they scored three runs on RBI singles by Anthony Crespo, Tyler Fornwalt, and Jim Kullman. Purple Cobras got two back in the bottom of the 1st on a two-run homer by Brandon Roman to leave us at 3-2 Stiff Sox after the 1st. Stiff Sox would add two more runs in the top of the 2nd on an RBI triple by Matt Brady and an RBI single by Brian DeLucas. Purple Cobras would keep it close as they scored one run in the bottom of the 2nd on an RBI single by Dan Roman to put the score at 5-3 Stiff Sox after two. Stiff Sox offense would go cold and failed to score in the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th innings. Purple Cobras would score three runs in the bottom of the third on an RBI fielder’s choice by Matt Meindl and a two-run RBI sac fly by Jose Villa to take a 6-5 lead after the third. Purple Cobras would fail to score in the 4th, 5th and 6th innings. This brings us to the top of the 7th where Stiff Sox needs at least one run to stay alive. Alex DeCristafano delivered for Stiff Sox and hit an RBI single to tie the game up. The go-ahead runners were on, but Purple Cobras shut them down. Purple Cobras had a chance to walk it off in the bottom of the 7th but went down in order and we are headed to extras tied 6-6. In the top of the 8th, Andrew Bertolino hit an RBI double to give Stiff Sox the lead. Purple Cobras got a man on via the walk in the bottom of the 8th but could not bring him around to score. Stiff Sox wins a close one 7-6 over Purple Cobras.
Game 5: The Swingers vs Wire 2 Wire
The last game of the day proved to be the highest scoring game between Wire 2 Wire and The Swingers. Wire 2 Wire came up to bat first and put up six runs on a two-run homer by Derek Acker, RBI singles by Sean Butrica and Alex Metz and an RBI double by Brett Anker. The Swingers got one run back on an RBI single by Ben Razzi as we stood at 6-1 Wire 2 Wire after the first. Wire 2 Wire put up another six runs in the 2nd on RBI singles by Acker and Tom Signore, an RBI double by Jacob McDevitt and a two-run homer by Gene Walczak. The Swingers got their offense going in the bottom of the 2nd as they scored five runs on an RBI single by Dave Pohle, RBI sac flies by Lucas Burke and Razzi, RBI double by Matt Close and an RBI triple by Nick McClay as Wire 2 Wire leads 12-6 after two. Wire 2 Wire’s offense would cool down in the top of the 3rd as they scored 0 runs. The Swingers took advantage in the bottom of the 3rd as they scored five runs on a homerun by Dion Greene, RBI doubles by Matt Close and Dale Hoover and an RBI sac fly by McClay to pull within one run, 12-11 Wire 2 Wire after three. Wire 2 Wire would get back to scoring in the top of the 4th as they scored two runs on an RBI single by McDevitt and an RBI double by Signore. The Swingers would fail to score in the bottom of the 4th as the score remained at 14-11 going into the fifth. Wire 2 Wire kept adding in the top of the 5th as they scored three more runs on an RBI double by Anker, RBI sac fly by Jason Falcone and an error. The Swingers would keep it close in the bottom of the 5th as they scored four runs on a two-run RBI single by McClay and a two-run homerun by Hoover as Wire 2 Wire held a 17-15 lead after five. Wire 2 Wire would open the game up in the top of the 6th scoring 8 runs on an RBI fielder’s choice by McDevitt, RBI singles by Walczak and Falcone, RBI sac fly by Matt Morgan and a couple runs via the walk. The Swingers failed to score in the bottom of the 6th as they trailed Wire 2 Wire 25-15 heading into the 7th. Wire 2 Wire would put the game out of reach with two more runs in the top of the 7th on a two-run RBI sac fly by Tom Signore. The Swingers would score two runs in the bottom of the 7th on an RBI sac fly by Zach Nikander and an RBI single but it was not enough as Wire 2 Wire wins 27-17 over The Swingers.
