Player registration now open and underway. Click here...

This tournament will be dedicated to league members Stephanie and Ryan Hines. Stephanie is battling Stage 4 cancer.

To help Stephanie and Ryan get through this really tough time, I am going to set the tourney entry fee to $25.00 per player. If you do not want to pay the extra $5.00, I will not force you to do so. If you want to pay only the regular $20.00 entry fee, be sure to make a note on the pay envelope. Anyone that cares to contribute more than the added $5.00 may do so. As well, make a note on the pay envelope. We can help. As a league we've done it before. Let's do it again.

I am asking for raffle donations like gift baskets, beer walls, Phillies/Eagles tickets and the like. Anything you can donate would be appreciated. Personally, I will be adding a raffle basket containing 2 free league fees. I don't have a contact or organizer for donations quite yet, but will post contact info as soon as I know who is going to step up and take charge. For the time being, reach out to Cynthia and Lowell Snyder at the email address below...

Please note: This tournament is a metal bat affair.

Please DO NOT register for this tournament unless you are reasonably certain you will be able to attend. If, after registering for the tourney, you find you cannot attend, please be considerate enough to manager tandems and those on the alternate list to notify the league office as soon as humanly possible.

Cost: $25.00/player ($5 added toward fundraiser)

This is a 1-day coed softball event. Eight teams will be formed entirely through a draft system based on individual player statistics. The 8 teams will then compete for the 1-pitch title. Each batter receives 1 pitch. If the pitch is fouled off, swung at and missed, or hits the mat behind home plate, the batter is struck out. If the pitch is a ball, the batter walks. The rest of the game is played in normal fashion. Winning teams will receive their choice of custom hoodies. Upon request, laminated certificates will be awarded to the winning managers and tournament MVP's.

This is a great day of softball, fun, food and drink-- kind of like one big picnic where a softball game breaks out every 50 minutes. It's also a great way to meet other Softball America league members. Bring chairs, tents, coolers, and whatever else to make yourself comfortable. Make a day of it or come and go as you please.

Members will be listed in the body of the draft on a first come, first served basis. Entrants must be, or have been, a registered member of Softball America at some point in the past 30 years.*

*Due to the lack of female league member participation over the last few tournaments, female outsiders WILL be permitted to enter the tournament.

Along with 8 manager tandems (16 players), an additional 88 players can register to be drafted. Total players 104. The minimum number of eddie draft candidates - 24 (16 female, 8 male)

Tournament play will follow ASA and SBA league rules with the following exceptions...

1. Each tandem will draft no less than 2 females BEFORE the 7th round.
2. Core/eddie walk rule WILL be observed. If a male player is walked with a female eddie behind him, the male player will be placed on 2B (credited with a base on balls) and the female eddie will bat. Unlike our league rule which needs 2 outs in the 5th, 6th, or 7th inning for the rule to kick in, this rule is in effect through the entire game.
3. 2nd foul ball courtesy for eddies will not be observed.
4. A 3-3-2 eddie rule will apply for this tournament - 3 eddies must be in the line-up, 3 eddies must play the field, 2 of the eddies in the line-up and field must be female.
5. All roster players must be in the batting line-up.
6. Batting line-ups must consist of 1 female eddie in one of the first 4 batting slots.

Please know it is entirely possible you could be drafted to a tandem or end up on a team with people you don't like. If that is something you won't be able to deal with, please don't sign up. And please don't be one of those people that signs up, gets on a team you don't like then makes an excuse to bail out. Remember, this is softball. It's all about having fun and nothing more.

The player draft will be held Sunday, August 24, 7:00 pm at the Quarry snack stand. Should inclement weather postpone the draft, we will run it on Monday, 6 pm at the Quarry.

Round by round draft order is as follows...

The Stephanie/Ryan Hines 1-Pitch Tourney was a resounding success. The SBA family's outpouring of love was on full display as the raffle basket table was never without people in line to make donations. I know I speak for the league when I say, "Best wishes to the Hines family and friends".

The weather was fantastic and so too was the softball. The Lauren Wood/Rob Lyons squad won the first game in the morning and the last game of the evening. That can only mean one thing... 1-pitch tourney champs. In between was softball and a lot of it. It seemed almost every game was a nail-biter. After losing in the winner's bracket finals, the Wood/Lyons team needed to get past defending champs Bill Brancato/Lissa Freeman. Down to the wire it went with Wood/Lyons holding on in the bottom of the 7th for the 19-18 win.

I couldn't be more pleased with how the softball end of things played out. No issues, no ejections, no nothing except for good, solid softball. In fact, I didn't hear anyone raise their voice all day. Hats off to Jim Plunkett, Brian Dart, and CJ Brancato who handled the tournament umpiring chores.
