Throwdown vs IDC
Throwdown broke the seal early by scoring a run in the 1st. IDC's power is well documented and it was on display early in this game. Two homers in the very first inning, a 3-run by Jarred Gardner and a solo by Tom Koelzer, led the way to 4 runs. After Throwdown scored a run in the 2nd, IDC was back at it again. Stop me if you've read this before, IDC scored a bunch of runs mostly via homers by Jarred Gardner (3-run shot) and Tom Koelzer (solo shot). Groundhog Day was in full effect. Throwdown, down 9-2, had to chip away. They scored 2 in the 3rd and another in the 4th. Oh boy, wouldn't you know the 4th was similar to the 1st and 2nd for IDC. Another Gardner/Koelzer home run combo lead the way to 6 more runs. This time it was Mike Koelzer with the dinger. Trailing by 10, Throwdown had to get the bats going and fast. Well, they delivered with a 6-run 5th and all with 2 outs! Half of them were brought in via an Axel Alicea long ball. IDC added a few insurance runs in the 6th by, you guessed it, the long ball. Homers by Anthony Crawford and Koelzer of the Tom variety helped IDC push the lead to 7. Throwdown would go quietly in the 7th and lose game 1 by a score of 18-11.
IDC grabbed the early lead via another dinger by Jarred Gardner. Throwdown, after doing some film study between games, knew they had to go yard to win. Jon Poore did just that in the 1st inning and helped Throwdown to a 1-run lead. After both teams went silent in the 2nd, IDC scored 4 runs without hitting a homer! Doubles by Chris Hackney, Anthony Crawford and Tom Koelzer led the way. Throwdown stayed true to their game plan and hit another homer in the bottom of the inning, this time by Axel Alicea, and plated 6 runs of their own. Scoring picked back up in the 5th when Hackney scored after hitting a lead off double. However, Alex Elmore hit a 2-run triple to help Throwdown push their lead to 13-7. Mike Koelzer was back to hitting bombs as his 2-run homer helped trim the deficit a bit. Throwdown then went quiet in the bottom of the 6th which kept the door open for IDC. After the 1st 2 batter reached safely Jarred Gardner stepped to the dish. He hit a 3-run tater to cut Throwdown's lead to 1. They would then load the bases with 1 out but were unable to bring another across to at least tie the game. Throwdown holds on for the game two win, 13-12.
The series finally would be as close as game 2. Throwdown scored a run in each of the first 2 inning. Their big inning was a 6-run 3rd. They followed that up with a run in each of the 4th and 5th innings. That was where the scoring would end for them as they could only produce 10 runs. Needless to say that wouldn't be enough to get the job done and bring the championship home. IDC scored 4 in the 1st via two 2-run homers by Jarred Gardner and Mike Koelzer. They added 3 more in the 2nd and 3 more in the 3rd. A 7-run 4th inning put the game out of reach. Jarred and Mike were at it again combining for 2 homers and 5 RBI in the inning. IDC proceeded to add 4 more runs for good measure before all was said and done. IDC takes game 3, 21-10.
Congrats to IDC for winning the Fall American Championship!
