B North Opening Day!

What to say after the year we've had so far. A worldwide pandemic, Kobe (RIP), UFO's confirmed, murder hornets.. the list goes on. Thankfully in the words of my favorite Irish Band Dropkick Murphy's... "the boys are back, the boys are back and their looking for troubleeeee!" I could not be more excited to do write-ups for you all because SOFTBALL is back and it feels so darn good.

Game 1: Yankee Clippers v Amber Inn

Amber Inn shook off the Covid rust early as they struck for 8 runs over the first two innings. In the first Marc McKinney lit up the scoreboard with a 3 run homer on his first swing of the year. The 2nd saw a different approach as 4 singles, a walk, a few fielder’s choices and a Brian McMackin double plated 5. The Yankee Clippers chose to spread their scoring out as they plated two in the first on a Lonnie Syder RBI double, two in the 5th on 4 singles and a fielder’s choice, 3 in the 6th on five singles and a walk, and 2 in the top of the 7th to take a lone run lead via singles and errors. Down a run in the bottom of the 7th Amber Inn finally got back in the scoring column as a sac fly saved the game, plating a run to secure a tie.

Final Score: Yankee Clippers 9 - Amber Inn 9

Game 2: Misfits v Yankee Clippers

The Yankee Clippers got in their groove after a strong finish to game 1 as they hammer home 6 runs in the bottom of the first and bat around. Nick Wasekanes cranked his first homer of the 2020 campaign and Connor Laigaie smacked a double in the rally. The middle portion of this one was all Misfits though. They swat home 3 runs in the 3rd on singles and errors. Following that up, they would crank out another crooked number in the 4th as a Jim Kash homer, combined with doubles from Rico Jones and Tim Graf helped plate 4. In the 5th inning. The torrid scoring pace would continue in the 5th as Joe Torres crushed a three run homer over the daunting Hatfield fence. The Yankee Clippers would respond to the damage with a run on another Connor Laigaie double but that would be all they could muster in this one.

Final Score: Misfits 10 - Yankee Clippers 7

Game 3: Phinnies v Dark Horse

When a new team enters a league there is always a certain level of intrigue around what they bring to the table. Especially when that team cannot spell Phillies right and came up with Phinnies. Good Luck to them this season…. Back to the game… Jim Lalley, former Bucks County Community College standout, opened the scoring for Phinnies in the top of the first as he singled and scored. They would extend their lead in the 2nd as Curt Hensman smoked a deep sac fly to put them up 2. Dark Horse finally shook off their Covid food and beer bellies as they rounded the bases in fashion in the bottom of the 2nd scoring 5 runs on a double by Dave Ketterlinus and a homerun by Jason Hudachek. Phinnies answered the bell with 4 runs on 5 singles in the 3rd but Dark Horse once again responded this tim to the tune of two runs. 6 singles would plate 4 more runs for Phinnies in the 5th, and solid defense would hold Dark Horse to only 1 on a Nick Mariane double. Phinnies would ice their scoring cake with two runs on what can only be considered a book keeping error on a Curt Hensman double?

Final Score: Phinnies 12 - Dark Horse 8.

Game 4: Ballz Deep v Dark Horse

Ballz Deep must’ve been hitting with masks on all Spring as they came out smoking the ball to the tune of 5 runs, headlined by a Gene “the machine” Walczak triple. They would follow up with a run in the 2nd on singles and another run in the 3rd on an Alec Metz double. Dark Horse, still sizzling from the first game, answered the 5 runs with a 6 spot, in large part due to doubles from Paul Harding and Nick Mattraine as they bat around. They would retake the lead in the 5th as Nick “the stick” Matrane demolished his first homer of the season helping plate three runs. SBA veteran Jimmy Walker smoked his first homer of the year in the6th inning to secure victory for the Horses as they are proving to be a team with a lot of fight and character, battling back in both games this season.

Final Score: Dark Horse 11 - Ballz Deep 7
