Game 1: Pitches Be Trippin vs Stiff Sox
Stiff Sox jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st on an RBI sac fly by Tommy Gallagher. Pitches Be Trippin answered right back and took the lead after a two-run homer by Kris Karaba to give Pitches Be Trippin a 2-1 lead after the first. Stiff Sox got shut down in the 2nd inning and Pitches Be Trippin expanded their lead in the bottom half of the inning, scoring four runs on RBI singles by Tim Graff, CJ McCaffery, and Dave McCauley and an RBI fielder’s choice by Dan Kalonoski to put them up 6-1 after two. Stiff Sox kept the pressure on and scored four runs of their own on RBI singles by Alex DeCristafano and Matt Brady, RBI double by Nick Purshock and an RBI sac fly by Anthony Crespo to close the gap to 6-5. Pitches Be Trippin offense went cold after the second and only scored one more run on an RBI sac fly by Paul Campbell. On the other side Stiff Sox got hot at the plate and scored 14 more runs in the last four innings on an RBI double and single by Brian DeLucas, homerun by Andrew Bertolino, RBI singles by Purshock, Antonio Almeida, Jim Kullman, and Matt Brady. Stiff Sox wins big 19-7 over Pitches Be Trippin.
Game 2: Wire 2 Wire vs Stiff Sox
Stiff Sox going for two wins in a row on the day battles the defending champs, Wire 2 Wire. Stiff Sox got out front in the top of the 1st scoring two runs on two RBI singles by Tommy Gallagher and Andrew Bertolino. Wire 2 Wire answered right back scoring 5 runs of their own on an RBI sac fly by Jacob McDevitt, two-run homerun by Tom Signore, RBI single by Gene Walczak and an RBI single by Sean Butrica to take a 5-2 lead after one. Stiff Sox regained the lead in the top of the 2nd after scoring four runs on a two-run single by Matt Brady and another two-run single by Nick Purshock. Wire 2 Wire reclaimed the lead again in the bottom of the 2nd on a two-run homer by Joe DiMezza to take a 7-6 lead after two. In the top of third and top of the fourth, Stiff Sox was not able to push any runs across. Wire 2 Wire opened the game up in the third and fourth scoring 9 runs on RBI singles by Brett Anker, Matt Godfrey and DiMezza, RBI double by Derrick Acker and a three-run homer by McDevitt to take a 16-6. In the top of the 5th, Stiff Sox were able to push across one run on an RBI single by Bertolino but needed more to try and get back in the game. Wire 2 Wire kept their foot on the gas putting up two more runs on RBI singles by DiMezza and Acker to make the score 18-6 after five. In the sixth, Stiff Sox went down in order and put themselves at risk of getting run ruled. Wire 2 Wire would do just that and scored 6 runs on RBI singles by Anker and Butrica as well as a grand slam by Jason Falcone to put Wire 2 Wire up 24-6 and end the game by run rule. Wire 2 Wire wins big over Stiff Sox 24-6.
Game 3: Dark Horse vs Wire 2 Wire
In Game 3, Wire 2 Wire had their chance to get their second win of the day against their rival, Dark Horse. Wire 2 Wire started where they left off in the last game, scoring eight runs and batting around in the top of the first on RBI doubles by Jacob McDevitt, Tom Signore and Sean Butrica and RBI singles by Gene Walczak, Alex Metz and Matt Godfrey. Dark Horse put up one run in the bottom of the first on a solo homer by Paul Ferruzzi to make the score 8-1 after the first. Wire 2 Wire stayed hot at the plate in the top of the second scoring four more runs on a two-run homer by McDevitt and a two-run RBI single by Metz. After a leadoff walk in the bottom of the 2nd, Dark Horse went down in order trailing 12-1 after two. Wire 2 Wire cooled off in the top of the 3rd and did not push any runs across. In the bottom of the 3rd, Dark Horse scored one run on an RBI single by Timmy Cooker to put the score at 12-2 after three. Wire 2 Wire got going again in the top of the 4th putting up six runs on a two-run homer by Signore, RBI singles by Anker and Butrica and an RBI double by Jason Falcone. Dark Horse needed a big inning to try and get back in the game but were only able to score two runs on an RBI single by Dan Cripps and an RBI fielder’s choice by Jack Stepnowski to cut their deficit to 18-4 after the fourth. Wire 2 Wire continued to add on in the top of the 5th as they scored four more runs on an RBI triple by Derrick Acker, two-run homer by McDevitt and an RBI single by Walczak. This put Dark Horse in a run rule situation in the bottom of the fifth as they needed four runs to keep the game going. After a leadoff single, Wire 2 Wire sealed the game on defense on a fielder’s choice and a double play to end the game. Wire 2 Wire wins big 22-4 over Dark Horse.
Game 4: Dark Horse vs Swingers
In Game 4 Dark Horse got a second chance to turn their day around and put a W in the column against Swingers. Swingers would get out to an early lead in the top of the first on an RBI double by Brian Close. Dark Horse answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the 1st on an RBI sac fly by Ryan Schock as we went into the second tied up at one. In the 2nd, Swingers and Dark Horse could not push a run across. Brian Close would come up big again the top of the third hitting an RBI single and putting Swingers back out front. The lead would not last long as Dark Horse put three runs across in the bottom of the 3rd on an RBI double by Bill Groff, RBI single by Paul Ferruzzi and an RBI sac fly by Schock to give Dark Horse a 4-2 lead heading into the 4th. Swingers tied the game up in the top of the 4th on an RBI single by Zach Nikander and an RBI fielder’s choice by Dion Greene. The game went back the other way in the bottom of the 4th as Rob Gisondi of Dark Horse hit an RBI fielder’s choice to give Dark Horse a 5-4 lead after the fourth. In the 5th, Swingers would turn the tides again as Brian Close continued his big hitting day, this time hitting a two-run homer to Swingers back out in front. Schock would answer with his third RBI sac fly of the day as the game remained tied 6-6 after five. Swingers regained the lead in the top of the 6th on a Lucas Burke RBI triple, but Dark Horse again answered and scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run RBI single by Dave Ketterlinus and an RBI fielder’s choice by Tom O’Neil to give Dark Horse a 9-7 lead heading into the final inning. In the top of 7th, Swingers needed at least two runs to stay alive and they got that and more as they scored four runs on a three-run RBI double by Matt Bachmann and another RBI double by Nikander to give Swingers an 11-9 lead heading into the bottom of the 7th. Now Dark Horse needs at least two runs to extend the game or three runs to win it. Schock delivered his fourth RBI sac fly of the day to cut it down to 11-10. Dan Cripps then would hit an RBI single to tie the game with two runners on. Jack Stepnowski came up next and hit a big RBI double to score the third run and win the game for Dark Horse. Dark Horse wins in walk off fashion over Swingers 12-11.
