B East Summer Finals

In the summer final we have the 4 seed Dugout Demons, who took out the 5 seed Wild Fire and the 1 seed Balls Deep, against the Spring Champion 2 seed Birds of War, who defeated the 6 seed Guiseppe’s Pizza to advance.

GAME 1

Dugout Demons start this one off as visitors and have a big start to open the Championship series. Nate Gregory starts the scoring with an rbi single, followed by a TJ Pergine rbi double and Jimmy Natale two rbi triple. AJ Dejewski caps off the first inning scoring with an RBI single and we have a 5 inning first for Dugout Demons. Birds of War responds though, getting rbi singles from Matt Jacobson and Tom Bush before a three run Home Run from Justin Kneebone to tie it up after one. Dugout Demons grabs the lead again in the top of the second with a solo Home Run from Christian Wagner and then an rbi double from John Wagner and two run Home Run from Nate Gregory to taje a 9-5 lead. Birds of War go down in order in the bottom of the second and Dugout extend the lead in the third with two runs, Jimmy Ruskos scores on an error and Don Natale is knocked in from a Pat O’Brien sac fly. Birds of War get two back with a Justin Kneebone rbi single and Kyle Mason sac fly to keep it close at 11-7, but Dugout Demons will pile it on from there. John Wagner gets a solo Home Run, followed by a Nate Gregory single and a TJ Pergine rbi double knocks him in. Jimmy Natale hits a sac fly that scores Pergine from second and then three singles in a row scores AJ Dejewski on Don Natale’s single. Pergine appears to put one out in the fifth, but a great snag prevents it and the fifth is scoreless for both teams. The sixth sees Dugout grab two more no a Scott Masulis two rbi single and then Dugout makes sure to put it out of reach in the seventh with back to back doubles from John Wagner and Nate Gregory, Wagner getting 1 rbi and Gregory getting 2, then being followed up by Jimmy Natale, with an RBI double of his own. Dugout Demons hold Birds of War scoreless the last 4 and dominate game one to take a lead in the series.

Dugout Demons win 21-7

GAME 2

Birds of War opens game two as the visitors and make sure to show Dugout Demons that it’s a series, not just one game. They get the lead with their second batter, an rbi double from Jay Cowan, and then Tom Bush knocks Cowan in with a double and Ryan Thompson follows it with an RBI single of his own. Kyle Mason gets an rbi single as well to jump out to a 4-0 lead after the first half. Demons come out flat, getting only a single in the first, and Birds of War gets an insurance run in the second with a solo Home Run from Matt Jacobson. Dugout Demons is held scoreless in the second and Birds again extends the lead with a Justin Kneebone run when he scores on a Sonny Rey fielders choice. Once again, Dugout Demons is held scores in the third and Birds of War extends the lead even more in the top of the fourth. They get a two rbi single from Tom Bush and a two rbi double from Justin Kneebone to jump out to 10-0 going into the bottom of the fourth. Dugout Demons finally get on the board with a TJ Pergine two run Home Run and then a sac fly from AJ Dejewski after a Jimmy Natale triple. Both teams are scoreless in the 5th, then Birds of War gets a solo Home Run from Tom Bush and rbi single from Ryan McAvey to take a 12-3 lead after 5 ½. Dugout Demons rallies to try to end the series early, with a two RBI single from Jimmy Natale and a 3 run Home Run from Dom Natale to get 5 on the inning and cut the lead to 12-8. Birds of War grab some insurance runs with a Jay Cowan rbi single and a Matt Jacobson two run Home Run and then Justin Kneebone knocks one more in with an rbi single. We go into the bottom of the seventh with Birds of War up 17-8. Dugout Demons get two runners on with singles from Wagner and Brennan and then John Wagner knocks one in with an rbi double. Nate Gregory gets an rbi sac fly and then TJ Pergine gets a two run Home Run to get it within 5. Dugout Demons would fall short though, and we are going to a final third game.

Birds of War wins 17-12

GAME 3

Dugout Demons start this one off as the visitors again and have a big start to the top of the first just like game one. They get an RBI double from John Wagner followed by an RBI single from TJ Pergine and then a two run Home Run from AJ Dejewksi to take a 5-0 lead. Birds of War go down in order, and then Dugout Demons adds another when Dom Natale scores on a Fielder’s Choice. Birds of War goes down in order and after 1 Dugout Demons lead 5-0. The second sees Dugout Demons lead off with a Dom Natale single and he scores on a Fielder’s Choice to extend the lead to 6-0 going into the bottom of the second. Birds of War cut into the lead with an RBI single from Justin Kneebone, then Ryan Thompson scores on a Fielders Choice and Sonny Rey knocks Kneebone in with a sac fly. Dugout Demons takes control in the 3rd though, with a three run Home Run from TJ Pergine, RBI singles from AJ Dejewski and Jimmy Roskos, and an rbi double from Dom Natale to get 7 and take a 13-3 lead. Birds of War manage only a single in the bottom of the third and Dugout Demons extends it to a 14-3 lead with an Jimmy Natale rbi single in the top of the fourth. Birds of War start their comeback attempt with a two rbi single from Sonny Rey followed immediately by an rbi single from Ryan McAvey to cut it to a 14-6 lead for Dugout Demons. Dugout Demons extend the lead in the top of the fifth, with Scott Masulis scoring on a Christian Wagner fielder’s choice and then John Wagner gets two rbi’s on a single and Nate Gregory knocks him in with a triple. TJ Pergine brings Gregory in with a single and then a Jimmy Natale double puts Pergine in scoring position for an AJ Dejewski Fielder’s Choice and Pergine beats the out to score before the last out of the inning. Up 20-6, Birds of War get a single and walk, but get doubled up to end the inning and we go into the 6th with Demons winning 20-6. Jimmy Roskos leads the sixth off with a triple and then Dom Natale knocks him in for the only run of the inning, but it’s a big one as it puts Dugout Demons up 21-6. Birds of War need one run to play the seventh, but they can only muster a single and this one ends on a run rule.
