Labor Day 1-Pitch Tournament / Fall 2025 / Managers

Post by sixofdiamonds »

League members interested in drafting and managing a 1-pitch team for the upcoming Labor Day 1-Pitch Tournament (Sunday, August 31st, metal bat) should contact the league office ASAP. Managers will build their own team with help from league-supplied draft candidate statistics. Manager tandems must consist of a male and a female and will be accepted into the tournament on a first come, first served basis. The field will be limited to 8 teams. Two managing tandems will receive auto-invites from the 2025 Memorial Day 1-Pitch Tourney-- Bill Brancato/Lissa Freeman (fe) and Jason McLaughlin/Brittany Ullman (fe). If you would like to throw your hat into the managerial 1-pitch ring, now would be a good time to do so.

Manager tandems thus far...

Bill Brancato / Lissa Freeman (fe)
Jason McLaughlin / Brittany Ullman (fe)
Brandon Birkhead / Chelsea Detwiler (fe)
Alexis Roscioli (fe) / Kyle Rizzi
Stephanie Thrasher (fe) / Scott Flaherty
Corey Wambold / Rebecca Brennan (fe)
John Erb / Mary Kate Smith (fe)
Lauren Wood (fe) / Rob Lyons

Alternate
Chuck Mastrangelo / TBD (fe)

IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ

The upcoming Labor Day 1-pitch tourney will be dedicated to the raising of funds for a league member in need. Unfortunately, every so often a league member needs help to get by. Life can be difficult at times and this is one of those times for league members Stephanie and Ryan Hines. The SBA family has stepped up in the past. Let's do it again. The email below is from Cindy and Lowell Snyder. It pretty much explains the situation.

Subject: League Member Fighting Cancer

Good afternoon. A league member and best friend, Stephanie Hines aka Schanbacher, has been fighting cancer on and off for several years (and winning) however, since November, her cancer has progressed to stage 4. Her husband, Ryan Hines (a former league member) has been by her every step of the way. Stephanie has been hospitalized most of the time since November which has added a huge financial burden to the Hines family situation, especially as they try to focus their energy on fighting this awful disease! I know in the past, Softball America members have generously helped fellow league members in need with donations, etc. I am humbly asking if you have any suggestions for fundraisers/donations. Thank you so much!!

Cindy and Lowell Snyder

Hi Cynthia,

Yes, I know Stephanie and Ryan Hines and it hurts me to hear they are going through such a difficult time.

I will dedicate the upcoming Labor Day 1-Pitch Tournament to Stephanie and Ryan. I will increase the entry fee by $5 per player. That will raise $520.00 right off the bat (no pun intended). If you get involved and recruit others to help you, I’m sure we can get a bunch of gift baskets donated to be raffled off during the tournament. Someone can set up a 50/50 as well. When the time is right we will reach out to league members and ask for help. I will open the 1-pitch registration toward the end of July announcing the tournament and the dedication to Stephanie and Ryan. That would be a good time to reach out to league members for help setting things up.

Les

That is awesome!!!! I can’t thank you enough!!!
Cindy

I will kick in 2 free league fees for a raffle basket. Hopefully someone can help Cindy and Lowell set up a GoFundMe page for donations. I'm sure Cindy will need help with organizing the raffles, gift baskets, and 50/50s. I know we have experienced fundraisers in the league and I know it would go a long way if you could reach out to Cindy (email address below) and offer your assistance.

Each manager tandem has sent in a 3-digit number. This 3-digit number will be used in a lottery to determine tournament team numbers, draft order, and first round match-ups. The number we will work off of will be established via the PA Pick 3 Lottery on Monday, 08/11/25 (evening draw). https://www.palottery.state.pa.us/Draw- ... ICK-3.aspx

The managing tandem with the 3-digit number that is closest to the PA Pick 3 number (plus/minus) will be Team #1. Using each of the remaining manager tandem's 3-digit numbers, we will move in ascending order from the winning number to determine the balance of the team numbers. 000 will follow 999.

Alexis Roscioli (fe) / Kyle Rizzi: 247
Bill Brancato / Lissa Freeman (fe): 369
Brandon Birkhead / Chelsea Detwiler (fe): 365
John Erb / Mary Kate Smith (fe): 950
Stephanie Thrasher (fe) / Scott Flaherty: 108
Jason McLaughlin / Brittany Ullman (fe): 717
Corey Wambold / Rebecca Brennan (fe):543
Lauren Wood (fe) / Rob Lyons: 021
