Game 1: Stiff Sox vs Palz Tap House
The playoffs for summer are here and our first matchup was Stiff Sox vs Palz Tap House with the winner facing off against Purple Cobras in the semi-finals. Palz Tap House jumped out to a big lead early in the top of the 1st as they scored nine runs in the first inning on RBI singles by Peter Herbert and James Hildenbrand, RBI doubles by Shawn Herbert and Jordan Cohen and a two-run homer by Matt Herbert. Stiff Sox would get two back in the bottom of the 1st on an RBI single by Chris Sanchez and a sac fly to make it 9-2 Palz after the first. Palz would add three more runs in the 2nd on an RBI single by Peter Herbert and an RBI double by Matt Herbert to extend their lead 12-2 after the second. An RBI single by Nick Purshock in the bottom of the 3rd would trim Stiff Sox's deficit to 12-3 after the third. Palz would get the run back in the top of the 4th on a sac fly. Stiff Sox would get one run in the bottom of the 4th on an RBI single by Dan Stahl as they still trailed big 13-4 after the fourth. Palz would add two more runs in the 6th and 7th innings on an RBI single by Shawn Herbert and a sac fly to make it 15-4 which would be enough as Stiff Sox failed to score in the 5th, 6th and 7th innings. Palz Tap House takes down Stiff Sox easily and advances to face Purple Cobras in the semi-finals.
Game 2: One Hit Wonders vs Pitches Be Trippin
Game 2 would feature a matchup between One Hit Wonders and Pitches Be Trippin with the winner advancing to the championship to take on the winner of Purple Cobras/Palz Tap House. Pitches Be Trippin would get off to a slow start as they went down in order 1-2-3 in the top of the 1st. One Hit Wonders would win the inning in the bottom of the 1st as they scored three runs on RBI singles by Andy Springer, Andrew Bougher and Bill Groff as they led 3-0 after the first. CJ McCafferty would get Pitches Be Trippin on the board in the top of the 2nd on his RBI single. One Hit Wonders would increase their lead in the bottom of the 2nd as they scored four more runs on RBI singles by Dan Cripps, Jack Stepnowski and Springer and an RBI double by Nick Mariana to make it 7-1 One Hit Wonders after the second. After Pitches Be Trippin failed to score in the top of the 3rd, One Hit Wonders kept adding ad scored 6 more runs on an RBI double by Springer, RBI triple by Jimmy Cooker and a fielder's choice as they now had a commanding 13-1 lead after the third. The One Hit Wonders offense would slow down in the 4th and 5th, but Pitches Be Trippin could only score one run on a fielder's choice as they still trailed 13-2 after the fifth. One Hit Wonders would increase their lead once again in the 6th as they scored three more runs on RBI singles by Cooker and Tom O'Neil and a sac fly as they led 16-2 over Pitches Be Trippin heading into the final inning. Pitches Be Trippin needed a bunch in the top of the 7th to stay alive but could only push three runs across on a sacrifice, RBI double by Brendan McCoy and an RBI triple by Kris Karaba which ended their season. One Hit Wonders' offense sends them to the championship as they take down Pitches Be Trippin 16-5.
Game 3: Purple Cobras vs Palz Tap House
Our final game of the day had #1 Purple Cobras taking on Palz Tap House with the winner heading to the championship to take on One Hit Wonders. Palz got the scoring started as they scored four runs in the top of the 1st on RBI singles by Ryan Nakonieczny and Peter Herbert and a fielder's choice. Purple Cobras would answer right back with five runs of their own on RBI singles by Mike Corrigan and Rey Jimenez, RBI double by Jordan Roman and a sac fly to take a 5-4 lead after the first. Both teams would fail to score in the second inning. Palz offense stalled again in the top of the 3rd as they did not score for a second inning in a row. Purple Cobras would score three runs in the bottom of the 3rd on an error to go up 8-4 after the third. Palz Tap House would wake up in the top of the 4th as they scored five runs on an RBI single by Jordan Cohen and an RBI triple by Shawn Herbert with an error that scored him as well to take a 9-8 lead over the Purple Cobras. Purple Cobras stormed back and scored two runs on sac flies to retake the lead 10-9 after the fourth. Cohen would hit an RBI single in the top of the 5th to tie the game for Palz. Purple Cobras would then have a huge inning in the bottom of the 5th as they scored seven runs on an RBI double by Corrigan, a walk, a couple sac flies and an error to open the game up and take a 17-10 lead after the 5th. Palz would get a couple of guys on in the top of the 6th but could not score them. Unfortunately, time would run out and the game would end in the 6th inning. Purple Cobras pulls away and defeats Palz Tap House 17-10 to advance to the championship. See you next week as Purple Cobras takes on One Hit Wonders for the title in a best of three series.
